چکیده

The Kapuskasing Structural Zone transects the Wawa and Abitibi greenstone belts in Superior province of Canadian Shield. At southern margin (KSZ), Borden Gold deposit hosts low-grade-gold mineralization within upper amphibolite- to granulite-facies sillimanite-garnet-biotite gneisses. Here, we present geochemistry Lu-Hf geochronological studies a gold-hosting garnet-bearing gneiss constrain formation history regional geological history. garnet is almandine-rich, contains inclusions quartz, biotite, pyrite, zircon. absence chemical zoning likely due intracrystalline diffusion at peak metamorphic temperatures. 176Lu-176Hf internal isochron two fractions three corresponding whole-rock splits from gneissic unit yield precise age 2629.0 ± 4.3 Ma (MSWD = 0.66), with an initial 176Hf/177Hf 0.281210 0.000010 εHfi +4.1. This signature suggests mafic source, which was derived long-term depleted reservoir, for this metasediment. consistent youngest population zircons paragneisses, were previously dated area. Our results thus provide constraints on timing retrograde upper-amphibolite metamorphism gold Borden.

Models of Garnet Differential Geochronology

Rayleigh distillation models are developed to describe theoretical growth zoning of Lu, Hf, Rb, Sr, Sm, and Nd in typical garnet crystals from metapelites and metabasites. Effects of diffusion-limited transport within the matrix and intracrystalline diffusion are also considered qualitatively. Theoretical zoning profiles show strong depletions of Lu in garnet rims compared to cores, but virtual...

Cutts et al. (2014) combined thermodynamic modeling of compositional change in metamorphic garnet with metamorphic peak and retrograde pressure-temperature (P-T ) data derived from quantitative P-T pseudosections to determine clockwise P-T paths for several samples from the Tjakastad schist belt. The Tjakastad schist belt is located in the central portion of the Stolzburg domain at the southwes...

Garnet-Biotite Chemistry for Thermometry of Staurolite Schist from South of Mashhad, NE Iran

Mashhad Metamorphic Complex (MMC) with metamorphic, granitic intrusions and ophiolite units is situated in the suture zone of Paleotethys in NE Iran. Triassic staurolite-garnet schist of Khalaj represents the highest grade of metamorphism in MMC. In this study EPMA analyses of garnet and biotite used to determine the maximum temperature for regional metamorphism. The pattern of zoning in garnet...

Distribution of Fe and Mg between garnet and biotite in Scottish Barrovian metamorphic zones

The distribution coefficient KD=(Mg / Fe)garnet/(Mg/Fe)biotite has been calculated for eight garnet-biotite pairs from rocks ranging from the garnet isograd to the staurolite zone along the Stonehaven coast of NE Scotland. This distribution coefficient depends upon metamorphic temperature and is not dependent upon the Mn and Ca content of garnet. Garnet-biotite geothermometer yields temperature...
